How Coastal Hospice Can Help
The Coastal Hospice bereavement team wants to help you. The bereavement team is comprised of social workers, counselors, chaplains and volunteers who are educated and experienced in supporting people who are coping with the death of a loved one. Their help may include:
- Listening to you, allowing you to review the events of the loss
- Hearing about your loved one
- Helping you to let go of the pain without letting go of the person
- Providing specific information about grief
- Offering suggestions on how to deal with grief that have helped other people
- Leading support groups where you and others may learn from one another
- Supporting you, showing you how to accept your grief and work through it at your own pace
One-on-one counseling is available for those who prefer an individual approach to dealing with the overwhelming emotional fears and physical responses associated with a loss. This is offered free of charge to those who have lost a loved one through Coastal Hospice.
These groups encourage mutual support and understanding by providing an environment where participants can discuss and explore their feelings of grief and how they are coping. Most support groups are offered both daytime and evenings. A calendar of Bereavement Events is included in the

The luncheon and dinner socials provide an opportunity for anyone who has lost a loved one to meet with others and share support. There may be a featured speaker who can address topics related to grief and loss. Participants are asked to pay for their own lunches. A calendar of Bereavement Events is included in the

Hope and Healing with Horses is a free, one-day bereavement program for children and families who are grieving. Hope and Healing with Horses combines grief education and equine activities open to adults, teens and children in the community who have lost someone due to death. Adults learn how children at different ages deal with death and how to help children cope. Children share stories and play games with the horses related to understanding emotions. Both children and adults work together and have lots of fun doing team-building activities. This program is supported by the Tim Kennard River Run/Walk.

Memorial events are held in each of the four counties we serve: Wicomico, Somerset, Dorchester and Worcester. They provide an opportunity to come together with others in the community and remember those who have died.
Coastal Hospice Bereavement News is produced bimonthly by Coastal Hospice. It offers articles and information about ways to cope with grief, as well as information about grief support groups and memorial events.
